The Girl With Red Hair, an oil on canvas by Robert Henri, was acquired by The Arts & Crafts Club in 1907 as the first piece of a permanent collection for the community of Spartanburg. From that beginning, the museum’s collection has grown to over 400 pieces of art and sculpture.

Many fine artists from the Upstate region of South Carolina are featured in the collection, including August Cook, Margaret Law, Josephine Sibley Couper, and Grace DuPre. The collection also features paintings, sculpture, and ceramics by contemporary artists from this region.

The Spartanburg County Museum of Art is a regional museum promoting the visual arts by:

* supporting educational programming
* sponsoring diverse exhibitions
* acquiring, displaying and conserving a permanent collection
