One of the first programs offered by the Historical Association was a Fall Tour, held on Sunday, October 27, 1957, of historic houses in the county: The Seay House, the Thomas Price House and Walnut Grove Plantation. All of the homes were historic structures in need of preservation. Today, these historic sites are operated by the Historical Association along with the Regional History Museum.
The mission of the Spartanburg County Historical Association is to explore and preserve our region's history by collecting and sharing the stories of the people who shaped that history.
The Association engages visitors in unique living history programs and events in the city and county of Spartanburg; inspires learners of all ages to investigate the history that begins in their own backyard at our historic sites and regional museum; and involves the community in the preservation of our shared past.
