Spartanburg Sets Up Charging Stations for Electric Cars

The City of Spartanburg has announced the installation of charging stations in downtown parking decks.

Funded entirely through a federal grant partnering with “Plug in Carolina,” Spartanburg was selected as one of six cities in the state of South Carolina to receive funding. A total of eight, level II charging stations are installed in the St. John Street, Dunbar, Kennedy, and Magnolia parking decks.

All charging stations will be available for usage to any motorist owning an electric car. Usage during the first three years will be free to all users. At the end of the three years, there will be a nominal fee for each charge. Complete charge will take approximately 8-10 hours.

Plugin vehicles operate on domestically produced electricity and offer environmental, economic, and national security benefits.

For additional information on Spartanburg's stations, please contact Jay Squires, Storm Water Manager with the City of Spartanburg at 596-2089 or jsquires@cityofspartanburg.org.

Plug In Carolina is a 501 c3, non-profit, tasked with educating the public on the benefits of plugin vehicles. Plug In Carolina now helps municipalities and businesses encourage the adoption of plugins.
