Local brewery gives tours, tastings and refreshment to football fans.
Gov. Mark Sanford was in Spartanburg in July, 2010 to publicly sign the brewery tasting/direct sales bill at RJ Rockers. Breweries can now sell a limited amount of beer to customers following a tour. Until the new law, beer — unlike wine — could only be sold in retail stores via a wholesaler. Those in the industry say the direct, one-on-one contact with customers is priceless.
Now once a week, RJ Rockers has Tour and Taste Thursdays from 5 to 7pm.
Tours and Tastings are $5 and include a pint glass. Visitors can also purchase a half-gallon “growler” jug of their favorite beer to go.
The Spartanburg brewery is now making beer that is sold at Panthers games. They have contracted with Skull Coast Ale Co. to produce Maelstrom IPA, their flagship product. So when you watching the Carolina Panthers at Bank of America Stadium, grab a brew made in the Upcountry.
