The "Redneck Cheeseburger" at the Nu-Way.
If you love a good burger, then Spartanburg (nicknamed the Hub City) is the place for you. Ask a local where the best burger in the area is and you are bound to get a different answer from everyone you ask.
The Food Network Magazine named the Nu-Way’s “Redneck Cheeseburger” the best burger in the state of South Carolina. Picture a thick, juicy burger grilled to perfection and then topped with pimento cheese…and you have the “Redneck Cheeseburger”. The Nu-Way is also home of the oldest bar in the City of Spartanburg.
Drive by Ike’s Korner Grill on any given day around lunch time and you’ll see it is a hot spot! Ike’s has been a staple in Spartanburg for 50 years and has been family owned and operated for three generations. Their cheeseburgers are mouthwatering and their fries are hand cut and fried to a golden brown crisp.
The Beacon Drive-In is one of the few drive-in restaurant legends remaining that still offers curb service. Featured on the Food Network’s “Dinners, Drive-Ins, and Dives”, the Beacon is truly a southern landmark. People from all over the country come to the Beacon for its Chili Cheese A-Plenty, a chili cheeseburger on a bun buried on a plate underneath piles of sweet onion rings and French fried potatoes and the great drive-in tea of the South – generously sweetened, laced with a touch of lemon, served over a pack of shaved ice.
After you have had your fill of burgers, end your day with a tour and tasting of Spartanburg’s own brewery, RJ Rockers. Each Thursday night from 5-7pm, RJ Rockers offers a Tour and Tasting, where for $5 you can get a tour of a working brewery, get 4 4-oz. samples and get at 16-oz glass to take home to remember your visit to Spartanburg’s own brewery. If you can’t make it on Thursday to tour the brewery, stop in Cribb’s on Main or Main Street Pub for a taste of Rockers beer.
