Weddings in Upcountry South Carolina

If there is one thing we can say for certain, it is that there are plenty of options for a wedding in the Upcountry of South Carolina. Whether you want an outdoor wedding with just a handful of people or you need a block of rooms and a reception area for 500, you’ll have choices here.

Some of the unique outdoor settings in the area for your ceremony or pictures are:

Hatcher Garden & Woodland Preserve—this 10-acre botanical garden in Spartanburg offers an intimate setting for small groups and features a 10-foot waterfall along with natural landscapes and is just minutes from Interstate 26.

Falls Park & Rock Quarry Garden—both are Greenville city parks located in the heart of downtown and offer unbelievably beautiful locations for intimate gatherings of less than 100 people. And after your ceremony, you are already downtown!

Symmes Chapel - More than 100 couples are

married each year at this chapel.

Symmes Chapel—known as "PrettyPlace" because of the amazing view from this open air chapel, is part of YMCA Camp Greenville. Because the view is so breathtaking, it is advised to schedule your reservation at least six months to a year ahead.

Table Rock Lodge—a carefully restored CCC-era facility within a state park that has a commanding view of Table Rock Mountain. It consists of two levels--the upstairs has two fireplaces and is an ideal chapel-style setup for an indoor ceremony while the downstairs is setup as a dining area with a caterer's kitchen.

Camp Buckhorn at Paris Mountain State Park--this location has been a popular setting for weddings, family reunions, church retreats, business retreats and group gatherings since it was built with logs and rubble stone by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1936-37.

View Point at Buckhorn Creek--this unique property has unobstructed views of the Blue Ridge Mountains and is located only 15 minutes from downtown Greenville.  200 guests can enjoy the Koi pond, timber framed pavilion with rock fireplace and the amazing view.

SC Botanical Garden—offers a beautiful natural backdrop for weddings and receptions with up to 400 guests with indoor and outdoor venues available. Conveniently located near Clemson University and major highways.

If you are looking for a venue for your guests and a reception location, there is a large selection of hotels throughout the area. You’re sure to find something that suits you. One all inclusive option is the James F. Martin Inn which is connected to the Madren Conference Center and surrounded by the Walker Golf Course at Clemson University. The Inn offers a lakeside setting with a mountain backdrop, a grand ballroom and extensive accommodations. And then there is the championship golf course to help take one's mind off things.

But perhaps you want the intimacy and charm of a Bed & Breakfast for your ceremony, reception or the honeymoon. Some of our favorites are: Candelberry Inn—this 5 bedroom and 7 bath inn handles indoor and outdoor events, is just 3 miles from the Greenville-Spartanburg International airport and has a day spa onsite.

The view from the Red Horse Inn toward the

mountains and their six Victorian cottages.

The Red Horse Inn— has won numerous awards including “Best Honeymoon or Anniversary Getaway” from Inn Traveler Magazine and "Top 10 Romantic Inns" from American Historic Inns. The Inn has six rooms along with six charming Victorian cottages that sit on 190 acres with sweeping mountain views.

The Inn on Main—this historic 5 room inn sits right on Main street in Spartanburg and adjacent to a lovely park. The couple that runs it is such nature lovers that the bridal suite is named for the public garden in town, Hatcher Garden (see above).

Walnut Lane Inn—sitting on six acres halfway between Greenville and Spartanburg, the grounds of this circa 1902 cotton plantation are under a canopy of majestic walnut trees and century-old oaks. The Inn offers turn-key wedding/reception packages with catering services and even "Elope Packages" for those wanting to keep it simple.

If you live in or near the Upcountry, you may want to go to one of Bridal Shows put on by WeddingFestivals.com. They bring in a lot of vendors to convention centers around the area and you’ll find everything under one roof. Plus they have fashion shows, giveaways and it’s not just for ladies. Grooms are welcome, too.

If you have to rely on the internet to help you plan your event, there are a couple of sites we’ve found that have a good selection of services. The Upstate Bridal Association lists everything from bagpipes to photobooth rentals. The Upstate Mall is a virtual mall that makes it easy to search by category for the services you need.

Here you’ll find a little help with all that legal stuff.

You’ll find the Upcountry very accommodating to your event and your guests. Whether you choose a small town or a bigger city, our southern hospitality will make everyone feel comfortable.

Congratulations and best of luck on your upcoming event. Remember the Upcountry is a great getaway for anniversaries!
