Virginia Hawkins Falls

Horse Pasture Road
Sunset, SC 29685 | map | directions

Virginia Hawkins Falls was previously known as Double Falls until it was renamed in 2004 for Virginia Hawkins, a longtime Foothills Trail Conference executive secretary. It is located on the Foothills Trail and is te most segmated falls in South Carolina. The difficuly level if this hike isn't too strenuous, however it does take about 2 hours to hike to the falls.

DIRECTIONS:

1.  From Pickens, take US 178 west for 16.7 miles until you reach Laurel Valley Road on your left. After turning down Laurel Valley Road take the immediate right fork onto Horsepasture Road.

2.  Follow Horsepasture Road for 3.6 miles and park on the side of the road where the gravel road turns. Look for a sign that says "to the Eatatoee Creek Heritage Preserve." The steep gravel road to the right of the sign is the one you will need to take.

3.  Hike up the gravel road for 0.2 mile to where the Foothills Trail crosses the road. Turn LEFT onto the Foothills Trail.

4. At about 300 feet, the trail makes a sharp right turn up a set of steps. Turn right and continue 1.5 miles and you will come to a bench on the side of the trail. To the right of the bench is a large set of steps. Walk down these steps. The falls can be seen through the trees here.

5. At the bottom of the steps there is a short side path to the left that will lead to the bottom of the falls.
